Lukewarm

‘Lukewarm’

LUKEWARM…
moderately warm;
tepid;
unenthusiastic;
indifferent;
halfhearted.

Now here is a subject that we ALL have to be alert to, and deal with, if it tries to invade our lives/ministries.

And, we have a scriptual warning on this very word…

Revelation 3:15-16…
“I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other!
So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.”

Wow! Pretty strong words from the Lord!
It is obviously something very important to Him, and, to us.

A couple of other words came to mind as I was looking at lukewarm…

APATHY…
a lack of interest or feeling;
indifference.

INDIFFERENT…
having no interest or sympathy for;
having no partiality for or against;
neither good or bad;
unconcerned;
insensitive;
mediocre;
disregard;
dispassion;
disinterest.

And did you notice the ‘dis’ in some of those words, as in… to ‘dis’ something or someone.

DIS…
reversal or absence of an action or state;
removal of a thing or quality;
seperation.

We should be continually running everything through the filter of the Holy Spirit to guard against things like this… lukewarmness.
We need to be passionate about the things of God, and His family… our brothers & sisters in the Lord.
We need to be passionate about engaging our brothers & sisters in the Lord, encouraging them, and helping them in whatever way we can.
It all plays into the vision of God for mankind… ‘The Body of Christ’ & ‘The Great Commission’; they go together, hand in hand.

Mark 16:15…
“Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.”

We need to guard against lukewarmness in any area of our lives and ministries, and fan into flame the gift of God.
We need to be ‘on fire’ for the Lord and the things of the Lord. Red Hot; Glowing; Radiant!

Psalm 51:15-17…
O Lord, open my lips and my mouth will declare your praise.
You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it;
You do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

1 Samuel 15:22-23…
Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as obeying the voice of the Lord?
To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.
For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry.

Listen to the Spirit & obey!
Fan into flame the gift of God!
Get involved in the things of God!
Be supportive of each other… our brothers & sisters in the Lord!

The E’s have it…
Encompass;
Engage;
Encourage;
Enhance;
Enrich;
Enthuse;
Energize!

And check out the Message Bible Version of Psalm 51:16-17…

‘Going through the motions doesn’t please you, a flawless performance is nothing to you.
I learned God-worship when my pride was shattered.
Heart-shattered lives ready for love don’t for a moment escape God’s notice.’
