What do you need the most?
I have been working with Christian independent artists since 1997 full time, literally thousands of indies have come through my Indieheaven organization. I do my very best to help everyone, regardless of where they are in their music missions. Some have 10 CD projects out and tour full time and have great music and content. Some… well, some are trying to play all 6 strings on their guitar:)
One thing I have noticed is that all indies, regardless of their level are looking for something. It could be money, could be opportunity, exposure, bookings, radio airplay, you name it..
My question to you is what do YOU need in your music mission? Share with me your needs, I want to know how best to serve independent artists.
I’ll pick one responder to this post who will receive a free 1 year membership on my Indieheaven.com site. Thats a $240 value! And a FREE 1 year subscription to Christian Musician Magazine. Not too shabby! And, I’ll call you and talk with you about your music mission and see how I can help you!
All you need to do is leave a thoughtful and detailed comment to this post, make sure to leave your email address so I can contact you. Thanks for sharing your heart and needs with me!

I need more discipline. More discipline to write something, anything, a line or two every day. I need more discipline to read God’s letters to me. I need more discipline to spend more time with Father other than the times I’m leading worship.
As far as other stuff. Someone to hear my music and lyrics and want to help me get them out there to the world, whether it be through me singing them or someone else, I would just like to get it out there.
Great question Keith, let me say it’s great to hear other artist’s perspective. From mine it would be:
1. getting out of God’s way and surrendering my own will and desires so He can work out His plan and purpose in my life
2. more prayer support
3. more time
4. more money – at this point it’s a slow process to get funding enough for a truly excellent product
I don’t even know about #3 & #4 . I know it’s a reality but the truth is that if I’m praying and following Christ where He leads, and walking with my brother and sisters in faith and fellowship, I think God will work out the details.
Thanks for all you do Keith, your support means so much and really helps us keep going!
Grace and Peace,
Ken
What I need in my music mission is a network connector that I can drill down and find links via topic that I can be educated, encouraged, and engaged by.
If I have an interest in songwriting for example, I would like to be able to find links and connections that other songwriters are using successfully and have a place to add my “finds” regarding this topic. If I need help getting gigs, getting air-time, or have merchandising questions, then there would be tutorials, references to pertinent articles or blogs, and maybe even a webinar/web video link to archived information regarding my interest. This network connection would have to be easily search-able and regularly updated to maintain my regular participation and return visits.
This sort of network connection would be vital for my music mission and I hope would help others as well.
Hmmmm…tough question for me – probably because I have a hard time distinguishing between needs and wants! lol…but, seriously, what I need is to remember daily that I am a mess without Jesus, with nothing eternal to offer unless I fall daily at His feet. Anyone relate?
What I need from you? Everything you and your website offer! So, as a rookie who wants to become a supporting member but isn’t sure where the money will come from yet, a year’s membership to Indieheaven would be outstanding (I mean, c’mon, let’s lay the cards on the table here!)
Musically, I need your ears to listen to my songs and your experience to talk to me about how and what to refine in my songs/songwriting habits so that my songs are marketable. I need a professional perspective about the degree of my potential as a beginning songwriter. I’ve always been a good singer, but I still need help on phrasing! I need feedback that is honest, even if it hurts – I just function best that way. I need to be inspired and encouraged! I’m excited to continue this climb toward discovering exactly how the Lord wants me to serve Him through music, as He has given me talent and a passion to share with others.
God bless! Gina
I have felt many years there was writing in my future. Had no idea what I would be writing about and never dreamed it may be songs. But it seems that God has put poems in my heart and suddenly they flow out of me quicker than I can write the words. I have no idea if they are any good or not. I have only shared them with one other person really and feedback has been limited….
The Lord sure has started talking to me over these past 6 or 7 months and I am trying to figure out what He needs me to say. He has taught me, by observing and studying the work of another musician, that I can put a few words together and make them rhyme but whether these words have poetential for song I have no idea. Further, I have no idea where to find valid, and pure honest criticism of my work. Maybe…this would be a perfect venue to do just that. I am not looking in any way for someone to stroke my ego…I am looking to see if I can find a way to pull His words out of my heart in a way that will draw people closer to the Lord.
I am living purely and simply for His Glory. I am seeking, daily, ways to work for Him.
if it turns out that I can learn to put thoughts together in a way that moves the Spirit in others…I would have no idea how to market those songs to a musician and would need help in that area as well. But that is putting the cart before the horse as I have much to learn first about writing songs that have a worthwhile message with depth and meaning.
Your expertise would be very much welcomed. I dont know much about this site and appreciate your directing me here from the post regarding musicians getting paid for their music. On that same issue…I dont mind paying at all for valid direction with ways to learn.
I am very novice to this industry but am passionate about my cause. I would greatly appreciate your help with ways to proceed. These words, when they flow, and somehow turn into poems or potentially songs, have been the most fun I have had with words thus far. To find a way to make use of them for the Lord would be the most exciting thing I can think of to date.
from the heart…i appreciate your time.
